Residential Proxies Billed Per GB — Global Coverage, No Subscription
VoVoProxy residential proxies route your requests through IP addresses that belong to residential networks, so the pages you load look the way they look to ordinary people in that location. Billing is prepaid and per whole GB, you can buy as little as 1 GB, and you never sign up for a monthly plan. Traffic is deducted from your balance as you use it, unused traffic stays in your balance, and your account stays ready for the next top-up.
Below: what residential proxies are good for, how per-GB billing works, targeting and session options, and how to start.
What Residential Proxies Are and When You Need Them
A residential proxy is an intermediary IP address assigned by a consumer internet provider rather than a hosting company. When a website receives a request from that IP, it sees traffic arriving from a home-network address in a specific country, state or city.
That matters because many websites change what they show based on where a visitor appears to be and what kind of network they are on. Prices, ad creatives, search results, language variants, cookie banners and product availability can all differ by location. If you check those things from an office network or a cloud server, you often see a different version of the page than your customers do.
Teams typically use residential proxies for:
- Localization checks. Confirm that translated pages, currencies, shipping options and legal notices render correctly in each target market.
- Ad verification. Check that campaigns appear in the right regions, with the right creative, next to appropriate content. See our guide to proxies for ad verification.
- Market research. Compare how listings, prices and assortments vary across cities and countries, such as when running e-commerce price monitoring.
- Local search visibility. Review search results from the perspective of users in specific cities with proxies for SEO rank tracking.
If your workload is mostly high-volume collection from sources that do not vary much by audience, datacenter proxies are usually the more economical choice. For a side-by-side breakdown, read residential vs datacenter vs mobile proxies.
Residential Proxy Billing: Pay Per GB, Not Per Month
Many proxy plans bundle traffic into monthly subscriptions. If your usage is uneven, with heavy weeks around a launch and quiet weeks after, you end up paying for capacity you never touch. VoVoProxy uses a simpler model: pay as you go residential proxies, billed per whole GB of traffic.
| Pool | Minimum purchase | Best suited for |
|---|---|---|
| Datacenter | 1 GB | Data collection, monitoring, automated testing |
| Residential | 1 GB | Localization checks, ad verification, market research |
| Mobile | 1 GB | Mobile app QA, mobile-first verification |
| Premium Residential | 1 GB | Sensitive verification, brand protection |
A few details that make this practical:
- No subscription. You top up when you need more traffic. Nothing renews automatically.
- Prepaid balance. Usage is deducted from your remaining GB, and the portal shows your balance and usage history so you can see exactly where traffic went.
- One account per pool. Each pool you buy gets a dedicated account. When you need more residential traffic, you top up the same account, so your credentials and integrations keep working.
If you need the highest-trust IPs for sensitive brand protection work, compare the standard pool with premium residential proxies before you buy.
How per-GB billing works
The flow has four steps: you create an account, choose the pool and volume on the pricing page, pay with crypto at checkout, and your account is provisioned automatically. Each GB you use is deducted from the balance you bought, and when it runs low you top up the same account.
Targeting, Sessions and Protocols
Cheap residential proxies are only useful if you can point them at the right place. VoVoProxy gives you location-level control and the session behavior your workflow needs.
Location targeting
Depending on the pool, you can target by country, state, city or ASN. ASN targeting lets you select IPs from a particular network operator, which helps when you need to see how content behaves for subscribers of a specific provider. The countries and targeting options available for your pool are listed in the console, so you can confirm them before you buy. See our pages on US residential proxies, UK proxies and Germany proxies for market-specific guidance.
Country, state, city and ASN targeting is supported depending on the pool. See the pricing page for how targeting affects billing.
Rotating and sticky sessions
- Rotating IPs assign a new address as you send requests. Use rotation for broad sampling, such as checking a page across many locations or spreading monitoring traffic.
- Sticky sessions keep the same IP for a period of time. Use them when a workflow spans several pages, like stepping through a localized checkout preview or reviewing a multi-page ad placement.
New to the difference? Our explainer on what a rotating proxy is walks through both models.
Protocols and credentials
Residential proxies support HTTP and SOCKS5. Each account has its own username and password, and the portal generates ready-to-paste connection strings, so you do not have to assemble parameters by hand. The exact host, port and targeting or session parameters are shown in the portal.
A minimal example with curl:
curl -x "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@PROXY_HOST:PROXY_PORT" https://example.com/
And in Python:
import requests
proxy = "http://USERNAME:PASSWORD@PROXY_HOST:PROXY_PORT"
resp = requests.get(
"https://example.com/",
proxies={"http": proxy, "https": proxy},
timeout=30,
)
print(resp.status_code)
Replace the placeholders with the connection string from your portal. To use SOCKS5 instead, switch the scheme to socks5:// and use the SOCKS5 details shown in the portal.
How to Buy Residential Proxies
Getting started is self-serve:
- Create an account at vovoproxy.com/register.
- Choose the pool and volume on the pricing page: 1 GB minimum, prepaid, no subscription.
- Pay with crypto at checkout. Provisioning is automatic and typically completes within minutes.
- Generate your connection string in the console and paste it into your tool.
Because your usage is prepaid and visible in the portal, you can begin with 1 GB, measure how much traffic a real run consumes, and then top up with confidence.
Estimating how much traffic you need
Traffic depends on what you load. A lightweight HTML request uses far less data than a full browser session that downloads images, scripts and video. To keep residential usage efficient:
- Fetch only the pages you actually need to check.
- In headless browsers, block heavy resources such as video or large images when they are not part of the check.
- Run a small pilot, review the usage history in the portal, and extrapolate from there.
Security, Privacy and Responsible Use
Your proxy credentials are stored encrypted. VoVoProxy does not access or store the content of your traffic; it keeps account, order and usage records for billing, security and support.
Residential proxies are for lawful work: data collection, ad verification, localization checks, brand protection and QA testing. Illegal activity, fraud, spam, malware and abuse of third-party systems are prohibited. Good practice also means respecting each site's terms, robots.txt directives and reasonable rate limits. Full details are in the terms of service.
Residential Proxies FAQ
How much do residential proxies cost?
Residential proxies are billed per GB, prepaid, with a 1 GB minimum and no subscription. Unused traffic stays in your balance, and the current per-GB price is shown on the pricing page.
Do I have to buy a monthly plan?
No. Traffic is prepaid and deducted from your balance as you use it. When you need more, you top up the same account. Nothing renews automatically.
Can I target specific cities or states?
Yes. Depending on the pool, you can target by country, state, city or ASN, and the countries available for your pool are listed in the console. See the pricing page for how targeting affects billing.
Do residential proxies support sticky sessions?
Yes. You can use rotating IPs for broad sampling or sticky sessions when a task needs the same IP across several requests. The session parameters are shown in the portal.
Which protocols are supported?
HTTP and SOCKS5. Each account has its own username and password, and the portal generates ready-to-paste connection strings.
What happens if my order cannot be fulfilled?
Refunds are reviewed manually, and orders that are not fulfilled are fully refundable.
